Some of the commonly asked about infertility treatment options offered at Dallas IVF include:
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) – IVF is an assisted reproductive technology whereby multiple eggs are transvaginally retrieved from a woman following stimulation with fertility drugs. The eggs are then fertilized with her husband’s sperm, and the resulting embryos are transferred back into the woman’s uterus several days later. (More about the IVF process)
- Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection ( ICSI) – ICSI is performed at Dallas IVF for couples with severe male factor infertility; often, artificial insemination is not a viable treatment option for these couples. ICSI, a laboratory procedure, is performed in conjunction with an in vitro fertilization cycle. During the procedure, individual sperm are injected into the egg for the purpose of achieving fertilization. After five days, successfully fertilized embryos are then placed into the uterine cavity.

- Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) – PGD allows couples at high risk for passing along genetic disease or conditions to offspring the opportunity to test individual eggs or embryos for specific genetic abnormalities. After testing, only healthy embryos are transferred back into the woman to avoid miscarriage or birth of a baby with these genetic complications. Embryos can also be tested for commonly occurring genetic problems, such as Down syndrome.
- Artificial Insemination / Intrauterine Insemination (AI/IUI) – During artificial insemination at our Plano practice near Frisco and Allen, sperm that has been processed and concentrated is placed into the uterine cavity at the time of ovulation. This is done in conjunction with a natural cycle or a cycle induced using fertility drugs (clomiphene citrate or gonadotropin).
- Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid®) – Clomiphene citrate is a commonly used oral infertility treatment administered to our Dallas, Allen and McKinney area patients to help promote egg recruitment and growth. Clomiphene citrate is reserved either for women early in their care or women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and other forms of ovulatory dysfunction.
- Gonadotropin Therapy (Follistim®, Gonal-F®, Repronex®, Luveris®, Menopur®) – These types of fertility drugs are used to promote the growth of multiple eggs. This therapy is performed in conjunction with either artificial insemination or an in vitro fertilization cycle.
- Transvaginal Sonograms (Ultrasound) – Transvaginal sonograms are performed using a narrow instrument, which is placed in the vagina to monitor egg growth or examine pelvic structures. This tool provides Dr. Barnett with images he can analyze to diagnose possible causes of infertility or effectively manage the progress of an infertility treatment administered at Dallas IVF near Allen.
- Management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) – At Dallas IVF, Dr. Barnett offers multiple medical and infertility treatment options to help women manage PCOS. Treatments may include the administration of Glucophage® (metformin), traditionally a medication used in the treatment of diabetes which has been demonstrated to improve symptoms of PCOS and to help women at Dallas IVF with PCOS conceive.
- Diagnosis and Management of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss – Recurrent pregnancy loss can have many different causes. Dr. Barnett is able to use his wealth of resources and expertise to determine the reasons behind repeated miscarriage. Based on these findings, Dr. Barnett will devise a course of action to help reduce the possibility of subsequent pregnancy loss.
- Management of Complex Female Hormonal Problems - As a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility subspecialist, Dr. Barnett is highly qualified to diagnose and treat female hormonal issues affecting reproductive health. From simple to complex issues, he can provide a variety of treatments.
- Endometriosis Management– Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of female infertility. At Dallas IVF near McKinney and Frisco, Dr. Barnett offers a variety of solutions ranging from hormone therapy to surgical infertility treatments to help women with endometriosis conceive or manage their symptoms.
