Dr. Brian D. Barnett was raised in the Northeast. For his undergraduate schooling he attended New York University where he received a bachelor of arts with honors in psychology, and subsequently received his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School. Thereafter, Dr. Barnett completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) in Baltimore.
After residency, Dr. Barnett completed a three-year fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, often considered to be one of the premier infertility training programs in the world. Prior to moving to Plano in 1997, Dr. Barnett was on faculty at Duke University Medical Center and was instrumental in the success of its in vitro fertilization program.
As one of the leading fertility doctors in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, Dr. Barnett is the only reproductive endocrinologist with a full-time office on the campus of Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Barnett is a member of the Presbyterian Hospital ARTS Program in Plano, which allows both he and his patients to benefit from the world-class laboratory services the ART program provides.

A reproductive endocrinology and infertility subspecialist is an OB/GYN who has completed formal advanced training beyond that of his OB/GYN residency in either a two or three-year fellowship. After Dr. Barnett completed his four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology, he completed a three-year fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Any OB/GYN can list himself as a ‘fertility specialist,’ but only a Reproductive Endocrinologist has completed formal training at a recognized program, which has met specific criteria by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Barnett is board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and in the subspecialty of reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
To become board certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, a physician has to complete his or her fellowship, then pass a written and oral examination. It is not uncommon for a general OB/GYN to initiate an infertility workup and then refer the patient to a reproductive endocrinology and infertility subspecialist; Dr. Barnett is fortunate to practice in a community where there are many excellent general OB/GYN physicians who can initiate basic workups and refer patients to Dallas IVF. Of the many fertility doctors within the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, Dr. Barnett is the only board certified reproductive endocrinologist with a full-time office on the campus of Presbyterian Hospital of Plano.
