Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common syndrome that affects about 5% of women. PCOS is also a common source of infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, and clinical androgen excess, which may result in excessive hair growth or acne. PCOS is associated with many long term health risks including obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, insulin resistance (leading to diabetes), and uterine cancer.
If you are diagnosed with PCOS, our physicians at Dallas IVF will create a special plan to overcome the infertility caused by PCOS and try to prevent the long term consequences that can occur as a result of PCOS. To help a woman with PCOS conceive, your physician may recommend medication such as Clomiphene citrate (see above). He may also recommend medications to minimize insulin resistance with Metformin (Glucophage). If these medications are ineffective, gonadotropins therapy (see above) may be utilized to induce egg recruitment. Dealing with PCOS can be challenging for both the physician and patient. However, Dr. Barnett and Dr. Ku will work with you to find the appropriate treatment to manage and reduce the medical risks associated with your PCOS.
