Ovarian Reserve Testing Now For a Baby Later

A proactive approach to family planning includes ovarian reserve testing

Dallas IVF knows that most women don’t start thinking about their fertility until they want to have a baby. However, the physicians at our DFW fertility center find that taking proactive steps now, like ovarian reserve testing, results in greater fertility success later.

If you know you want to have a baby someday, you should undergo ovarian reserve testing

As women age, the quality and quantity of their eggs decline, resulting in a reduction in natural fertility. Each woman is different and some women will experience this decline earlier than others. As a result, the physicians at our DFW fertility center recommend ovarian reserve testing for any woman who wants to have a baby in the future. There’s no better way to gain information about the state of your fertility.

Testing is especially important if you fall into any of these categories.

  • You have a family history of premature menopause.
  • You are under the age of 35 and have been unable to get pregnant for one year.
  • You are 35 or older and have been unable to get pregnant for six months.

There is more than one test to assess your ovarian reserve

Our DFW fertility center strives to give you the clearest picture of your fertility with AMH and FSH testing and antral follicle count.

  • AMH testing assesses your levels of antimüllerian hormone. This information tells your physician how many eggs you have in your ovaries. These hormone levels remain stable throughout the month, so you can undergo AMH testing at any time during your cycle.
  • Antral follicle count allows your physician to count the number of egg-containing follicles in your ovaries. The results help your physician estimate how many eggs you have left and provide information about how you will respond to fertility medication. This procedure is performed using a transvaginal ultrasound at the beginning of your cycle.
  • FSH testing measures the amount of follicle stimulating hormone in your blood. The higher the number, the harder your body is working to recruit eggs and ovulate each month.

Ultimately, the results of ovarian reserve testing tell you and your physician how likely you are to get pregnant compared to other women in the same age group. No matter what your test results say, there are fertility treatments available to help you become a mother.
