Egg Freezing Costs

Understanding egg freezing costs

As egg freezing becomes more popular among women who want to delay family building, many women are visiting Dallas IVF with questions about egg freezing costs. Our DFW fertility center provides state-of-the-art fertility preservation services, and the Dallas IVF team is always happy to provide more detailed information about egg freezing costs.

Egg freezing costs include the cost of fertility treatments

When a woman wants to freeze her eggs to preserve her fertility, she will undergo a process that is similar to in vitro fertilization, or IVF. However, instead of having her eggs fertilized with sperm in the IVF laboratory and then transferred to the uterus, her eggs are frozen and stored for later use.

At our DFW fertility center, egg freezing costs include the cost of each step of the process.

  • The first step is ovarian stimulation. During this step, the woman takes medications to stimulate the growth and development of multiple eggs in her ovaries. The woman’s fertility specialist will monitor her throughout this process to determine the right time to retrieve the woman’s eggs. Ovarian stimulation includes the cost of fertility medications and monitoring appointments.
  • The second step is egg retrieval. When the woman’s eggs are mature, she will visit her fertility specialist for the procedure. During this brief outpatient procedure, the woman will be lightly sedated while her physician retrieves her eggs. The cost of egg retrieval includes the cost of the medical procedure and anesthesia.
  • The final step is egg freezing, or vitrification, in the laboratory. Vitrification is a rapid freezing process that transforms the liquid inside each egg into a solid state, thus preventing potentially damaging crystal formations. The cost of laboratory services and vitrification is included in this step.

In addition to these costs, egg freezing includes storage fees, which are paid yearly. Women who store their eggs for only a few years will ultimately pay less than women who store their eggs for a decade or longer.

Egg freezing is worth the investment in your future

Although egg freezing has costs associated with it, fertility preservation can provide peace of mind, which is priceless. For women who are not yet ready to start a family, for whatever reason, egg freezing can help them delay childbearing until the time is right.

As for the best time to undergo egg freezing, our DFW fertility center tells women that sooner is better than later. A woman in her 20s will generally produce more and higher-quality eggs than a woman in her 30s or 40s. As a result, it is better for a woman to freeze her eggs at a younger age.
